THE BEST INPUTS GROW THE BEST PLANTS

Ball Seed has the plants, products and services to help you grow with confidence. All our high-quality seed, plugs, unrooted cuttings, liners, bulbs and bare root are available on WebTrack ® , our online ordering system. You’ll also find greenhouse equipment, soil and media, and technical support for growers of all sizes.

SEED Ball Seed offers the widest assortment in the industry. Log in to WebTrack for access to the industry’s highest quality and deepest inventory of seed, and you’ll find information about our overnight delivery – if we have your order by 5 pm (CST) today, we can have the seed to your door tomorrow. PLUGS They are often some of the smallest and most cost-efficient inputs. When you place an order with Ball Seed, we ship out the plug trays, so you can transplant the plugs while they are fresh and at their best quality. TISSUE CULTURE Ball Seed leads the way with innovative genetics produced from tissue culture (TC), grown in a laboratory using a gel-like media called agar. The agar contains all the nutrients and building blocks to promote and steer plant growth. TC is used to produce more challenging crops, like anigozanthos, limonium, echinacea, heuchera, and several tropicals and foliage plants.

LINERS AND URCS Our unrooted cuttings (URCs) and liners offer a low input cost and are shipped through a cold chain to maintain quality. URC vegetative classes include annuals, perennials, tropicals and more. BULBS AND BARE ROOT Ball Seed has partnered with the industry’s top bulb suppliers to provide you access to the trending varieties in the product categories consumers are craving, like tulips, calla lilies, cut flower dahlias, ranunculus and more.

YOU CAN COUNT ON BALL SEED FOR: • Easy access to tens of thousands of innovative, trialed-and-proven varieties from 225+ top-notch suppliers. (ballseed.com/webtrack) • Our state-of-the-art Ball Premier Line ® seed technology that takes seed from good to great. • Industry-leading packaging and storage conditions that give you the freshest seed, All our Ball Seed and Ball ColorLink sales representatives are dedicated to keeping you updated on innovative products and programs, improvements in seed performance, the latest trends and convenient business solutions. We want to help you grow profitably and stay ahead of the competition. We provide unique services like our proprietary Ball Vigor Index ® rating that identifies superior seed lots for the best growth and optimized use in automated seeding systems. But we don’t test the seed in a petri dish; we test it by growing it the way you grow it, so you can be confident it will perform that same way under your conditions. We also test pelleting and priming to determine the uniformity of how and when pellets break down. This determines the optimal pellet size to get the majority of full cells in the plug tray. It also helps ensure pelleted products will provide a balanced mix of varieties that all germinate and grow compatibly.

easier sowing and storage, and the extra edge in production tracking.

THE BALL SEED ® DIFFERENCE

Ball Seed is dedicated to providing the highest quality inputs so you, our grower customers, can grow your most successful crops every season. You’ve shared with us that 60 or 70% seed germination rates mean you are losing out on over a third of your business when that crop doesn’t perform. You still have to pay for the seed and the labor of planting, the cost of watering, the energy to grow the crops, and the monitoring for pests and diseases, but at the end of the season, you don’t recoup those costs with a saleable product. We’ve listened, and our solution is to provide more in-depth seed testing and verification through our Ball Vigor Index ® (BVI) ratings. BVI incorporates the concept of uniformity with germination to assure a consistent standard across an entire plug tray. This means our customers have the best opportunity to maximize the number of transplantable seedlings. When this seed is used to grow plugs, research has shown that the uniformity of the transplanted plugs also makes a difference in the uniformity of the finished bedding plant flat. BVI also helps us assure that our customers receive no bad seed lots. Seeds that fail to meet our BVI standards are removed from sale. We’ve also spent decades studying how seed moves through a seeder and how it reacts when it hits the media. We’ve learned a lot about pelleting, de-fuzzing, de-tailing and slick-coating seed, all to make it easier for seed to make its way to a plug flat. At Ball Seed, we truly make it our business to know about all seed.

2027 SEED PRODUCTION GUIDE Our technical experts have created a Seed Production Guide to help growers get the most success from their seed lots. The guide is available by mail or as a downloadable file at ballseed.com in English and Spanish.

BALL PREMIER LINE ® SEED

All Ball Premier Line seed is plug tested for quality, and more than 80% of our seed inventory – billions of seeds each year – passes through our Ball Premier Lab for coating and pelleting, priming and testing. You benefit from reduced shrink, reduced cost and improved yield.

PELLETED SEED (PL) Pelleted seed has been enhanced through a proprietary process where multiple layers of a yellow pelleting material are applied to increase the size and make the seed more spherical. This improves visibility and makes seeder pickup easier.

BALL CONTROLLED GROWTH™ SEED (BCG) Some crops get stretchy as seedlings. With this form, the seeds are coated with A-Rest ® , a plant growth regulator, to save you time and money, while keeping the plants at a desired height. • African Marigold (CT), p. 75, 219 • French Marigold (CT), p. 77 • Zinnia (CT), p. 146 A-REST is a registered trademark of SePRO Corporation.

8

PRECISION™ MULTI‑PELLETS (PMPL) The first-ever professional-quality multi-species and single- species Precision Multi-Pellets are specially formulated to include a precise number of seeds that deliver a balanced mix of two or three varieties. Each seed is pelleted first, then combined with others into a larger pellet. Trialed and tested in the lab and in the greenhouse, they germinate and grow compatibly. All components are present at least 90% of the time. • SimplyHerbs™, p. 240

PRIMED Primed seed has had the germination process started, but it is stopped before the root protrudes through the seed coat; the seed is then dried down. Primed seed has more uniform growth and will germinate under a wide range of conditions.

MULTI-SEED PELLETS (MPL) AND MULTI-SPECIES MULTI-PELLET The seed undergoes a similar process to pelleted but combines multiple seeds in one pellet, essentially providing a pre-formed mixed container in a pellet. • SimplySalad ® , p. 247

TREATED SEED (TR) Uses Thiram for general seedling disease control and Allegiance for protection against multiple seedborne and soilborne fungi. Seed is sealed; there is no change in shape/size and no dust or rub-off.

DE-TAILED The “tail” on a seed can interfere with an automatic seed-sowing machine. By removing the tail, the seed has a smoother shape

RAW This is seed in its natural form, with no enhancements.

that is easier to handle. • Marigolds, p. 75, 219

COATED SEED (CT) Seed is enhanced through a proprietary process in which a “film coating” or “slick coating” is applied to allow easier handling by the grower and ensures better flow through seeders.

AMPLIFIED SEED (AMP) The seed of certain crops needs a little boost for better germination, so this form enhances it through a proprietary process, resulting in faster and more uniform germination compared to non-enhanced seed.

HIGH ENERGY SEED (HE) Refined seed delivers improved germination and uniformity. GENESIS ® SEED (GS) Primed seed germinates under a wider range of temperatures and delivers better uniformity.

BALL VIGOR INDEX ® SEED Our patented plug-testing method determines the vigor and uniformity of seed lots by analyzing physical characteristics and responses of seedlings grown in a plug tray. The higher the rating, the better the quality. You can be assured of great performance from every packet of seed that displays the Ball Vigor Index rating.

TREATED NON-CHEMICAL Seed has been disinfected without the use of fungicides, reducing the seedling pathogens on the seed. • Salvia, p. 123, 184

CERTIFIED ORGANIC SEED Our organic seed is not treated with any chemicals. Visit ballseed.com for a complete product listing.

BALL VIGOR INDEX ® (BVI) RATED SEED

PREDICTABLE UNIFORMITY

Ball Vigor Index ® (BVI) tested and rated seed provides growers with assurance that their seed lot from Ball Seed will germinate, grow and mature at the exact same rate. The result is consistent, high-quality trays with excellent vigor. It also means that all young plants will reach the same stage of development at the same time, meeting the highest standards for uniformity and reducing the need for sorting or hand-thinning.

Learn More about BVI Crops

10

TRANSFERABLE YIELD

Relying on seeds to germinate simultaneously gives professional growers “bench-run” finishes, where all young plants grow uniformly and are ready for transplanting at the same time. You can count on staying on scheduling and know just what to expect from your crop: • Accurate crop times • Good-quality young plants • Reduced labor and costs

HOW BALL SEED MEASURES BVI

1. Seed lots are sown and grown by the Ball Premier Lab. 2. Grown-out trays are run through the specially built BVI equipment using laser scanners and cameras to analyze the seedling growth. 3. BVI technology generates a 3D image to measure height, leaf area and chlorophyll action to generate a rating that is assigned on the seed packet and carried in WebTrack . The higher the rating, the better the seed lot and the greater the performance.

“When you see seed from being sown to getting pushed on a truck, it’s a good feeling because you know the customer is getting

a good product that we’ve poured a lot of time into, a lot of effort.”

Alan Barnitz, Bob’s Market and Greenhouse

12

Good Seed Starts with Ball Seed

Ball Seed sets a quality standard for all seed lots that we test. Lots that score below a certain threshold are not sold. This is how we ensure quality, reliability and growing success when you buy seed through Ball Seed. What’s Next: The Future of Machine Learning We continue to build on this quality testing process, implementing machine learning and visioning technology to enhance the metrics. Our goal is to serve “All the Best and Nothing Else” to our grower customers.

Ball Seed Technical Services specialists work side by side with grower customers to ensure the highest success rate with each crop. Often, this means traveling to the grower to address production challenges, though sometimes it can be handled through research and a phone call or email. The Ball Seed Technical Services team has a strong desire to help all greenhouse professionals achieve success. SUPPORTING OUR GROWERS THROUGH TECHNICAL SERVICE

In the Greenhouse The team is often required to travel to meet with growers in greenhouses across North America, offering in-person support and problem solving. Chris Ferguson has many years’ experience in large-scale greenhouse production and IPM management. His ability to understand challenges and provide practical strategies for improvement are highly valued by all his clients. Josh Henry has a unique way of presenting ideas and tactical methods for putting them in place at each operation he works with, ending in results that speak for themselves. In the Research Lab Nathan Jahnke, team leader, strives to understand a challenge thoroughly before developing a plan to assess, test and trial potential solutions. He works closely with breeding companies, young plant producers and university researchers to develop projects that maximize investment and result in usable crop culture and cutting-edge methods to level up production – all with the goal of high-quality output. On-Demand Support Many questions that come to Ball Seed Technical Services need a quick answer and rescue plan. Nick Flax’s role requires a wide range of knowledge, experience in production settings and creativity, provided with speed and accuracy. Nick fields calls, texts and emails from growers. When he can’t solve a challenge or needs a second opinion, his relationships with Ball Seed’s extended team, allied suppliers and friends at leading universities can be leveraged to come up with the best solutions.
